NaCl
Sodium Cloride

Optical Transmission
  • Spectral Range: 0.25 to 16 µm

  • Wave Number Range: 40,000 to 625 cm^-1

Solubility & Handling
  • Solubility: 35.7 g / 100g water at 0°C; soluble in glycerine; slightly soluble in alcohol and liquid ammonia.

  • Resistivity: Insoluble in hydrochloric acid.

  • Handling: NaCl is highly sensitive to moisture. Always wear gloves during handling to prevent "fogging" from skin oils/moisture and store in a dry environment (desiccator) when not in use.

Thermal & Mechanical Properties
  • Melting Point: 801°C

  • Thermal Shock Resistance: NaCl is highly sensitive to rapid temperature changes. Components should be slowly acclimated to room temperature to prevent internal stress and cracking.

  • Mechanical Hardness: * Knoop Hardness: 15.2 (indenter in <110> direction)

    • Knoop Hardness: 18.2 (indenter in <100> direction)
