Cesium Iodide

Optical Transmission
  • Spectral Range: 0.25 to 55 µm

  • Wave Number Range: 40,000 to 180 cm^-1

Solubility & Handling
  • Solubility: 44 g / 100ml water at 0°C; Soluble in Ethanol and Methanol.

  • CsI must be stored in a desiccator or a sealed container with fresh silica gel. For long-term protection, it is best kept in a temperature-controlled environment with relative humidity (RH) below 20%.

  • Handling: Zero-Moisture Handling: Never touch CsI optics with bare hands. Skin oils and moisture will cause immediate, permanent etching of the polished surface. Always use powder-free latex or nitrile gloves.

Thermal & Mechanical Properties
  • Melting Point: 621°C

  • Thermal Shock Resistance: NaCl is highly sensitive to rapid temperature changes. Components should be slowly acclimated to room temperature to prevent internal stress and cracking.

  • Mechanical Hardness: * Knoop Hardness: 20

    • CsI is exceptionally soft (Knoop 20). It does not cleave, but it can be easily scratched or "dented" by metal tweezers. We recommend plastic-tipped tweezers or vacuum pickups.
